Banknet's Seminar on Mobile Banking & Payments
"Changing Mobile Payment Landscape- Challenges & Opportunities"
26th August 2008. Taj President, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai
Over the years mobile phones have become an indispensable accessory for almost every individual. This ever expanding reach of mobile phones have made them a gadget which can be conveniently used for staying connected with the world, using internet for banking & other purposes, receiving sms alerts, making payments etc. besides of course its basic function, making calls. The Reserve Bank of India has released draft guidelines for mobile payments in India. Accordingly, a mobile phone owner can transfer money from his bank account to the bank account of another person using his mobile phone. Aiming at long-term goal, the RBI has said, that the framework would be such so as to enable transfer of funds from account in one bank to any other account in the same way or any other bank on a real time basis irrespective of mobile network of the customer.
To meet this objective of a nation-wide mobile payment framework, a robust clearing and settlement infrastructure operating on a 24x7 basis would be necessary. This would require inter-operability between mobile payments service providers and banks and development of a host of message formats. Hence, banks may enter in to multilateral arrangement and create mobile switches or inter-bank payment gateways with expressed permission from the RBI.
In view of such major developments in the mobile banking & payments arena, Banknet's Seminar on Mobile Banking & Payments “Mobile Banking & Payments- Changing Mobile Payment Landscape- Challenges & Opportunities” will provide a neutral platform where the regulators, Practitioners from Financial Services & Corporates, Vendors, Technology Providers, Consultants, Academicians will put forward their views on the existing scenario in the mobile banking sector.
